Juried National Show 08

2008 Juried National Show
This is our best National Show ever!

Yes, we hear these words every year.  This year’s show continues the tradition, with some of the most outstanding artwork Redding has seen yet.  The artists just keep getting better and the Art League gratefully reaps the rewards, building a reputation as a gallery that appreciates and welcomes excellence in fine art.  Many thanks to this year’s juror, Nancy Collins, who selected the show.  Her own reputation as an artist is unsurpassed.  As they say, “It takes one to know one”.  This is her statement:

I am often asked “What makes a good painting?” my first thought goes to what unusual colors or perspective an artist uses to get my attention.  How often have we seen a tree, or a landscape and they are executed well, but there just isn’t any heart/soul in the piece? All I can say is dig deeper and make sure that your audience knows what moved you to paint that particular painting. Tell me a better story, evoke emotion in me/audience, and guide me into your painting so that I don’t want to leave it.    Nancy Collins

And the winners are. . .
