Michael Eichwald “There is nothing quite so fine as art, except perhaps for holiness.”
Michael
Eichwald was exposed to the professional black &
white photography of an uncle while living as a
young student in Europe. Another family member was active in the academic study of
"Art and Visual Perception." From this exposure in young adulthood came
a continuing interest in visual aesthetics. After retiring from a successful practice in dermatology, Michael was able to return to his fascination with
"what makes one image art and another simple craft". Initially inspired by the ancient Japanese art of
Suiseki, Michael continues to be strongly influenced by
the Japanese appreciation of the subdued, the weathered, the essence of the thing , and of what is humbly transient on our earth. With the advent of digital photography and
its unprecedented potential, Michael has found a new art form, with
the digital camera or scanner as the sketch pad, and computerized
editing with Adobe Photoshop as the palate.
