I received my B.A. in art history at U.C. Davis and U.C. Berkeley. After getting my teaching credential, I received my M.A. in art and art history from California State University, Sacramento. After moving to Trinity County from the Bay Area in 1986, I worked as a college textbook editor in our home business and also taught art and art history in the county schools.
In the late 1990s, I decided to realize a long-term goal—to teach myself watercolor. Watercolor is my particular love. It has a quality of lightness and breath that lifts the heart.
More recently, I have explored acrylic and oil. Acrylic lends itself to the dramatic boldness and abstracted form I am increasingly drawn to, and oil helps me capture some of the glowing light effects characteristic of the 19th century Luminists.
From 2004 to 2008 I was taught art for Shasta College, Weaverville Extension. Currently, I teach watercolor workshops in Trinity and Shasta Counties. In 2011, I was instrumental in saving our local gallery and became a co-owner and director with nine other artist volunteers of the Main Street Gallery in Weaverville.
