Juror's Statement

" . . . I enjoyed reviewing this year's body of work. It was difficult at times.  I was not ready for the quantity of quality photographs: [this] took much thought and consideration. I had to set aside my own prejudices and examine the images for what they are.   . . . a photo from a place that I had not seen before at first seems to have that 'Wow' effect.  But I had to ask myself 'why do I like it' and 'is it really a great photograph?'  The photographs that were chosen evoked emotion, caught a moment in time, and were thoughtfully composed and technically flawless. I felt that the photographer, whether here in Shasta County or half-way around the world, was trying to express something to the viewer that he or she saw."  Brad's comment on framing photography, is that it be kept simple: "A black frame with a white or black mat is sufficient."
